Art as Gift 2 – Feb 23

The second meeting of “Art as Gift” discussed themes that emerged from our reading of chapter two of Jacques Derrida’s Given Time: “The Madness of Economic Reason: A Gift without Present.” This focuses on the anthropologist Marcel Mauss’s 1925 essay The Gift, central to which is a study of the property-exchange rituals of the potlatch.
